Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construcții: The year 2023 was one of growth and market position consolidation

The construction market in Romania was marked this year by the continuation of the rising trend in construction materials prices. Prices have reflected an adaptation to new economic realities, with fluctuations dictated by material costs, inflation, and an increased labor shortage, considers Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construcții, companies specialized in complex Design & Build projects.

On the other hand, the difficult international context, marked by economic instability and the conflict in Ukraine, has generated a need for adaptation for construction companies.

The competition intensified but also brought collaboration opportunities, contributing to the improvement of quality and efficiency standards in the construction sector.

“This year we have witnessed an increase in demand for innovative and sustainable projects, a trend that has been reinforced by the growing awareness of the importance of constructions with a reduced impact on the environment,” emphasizes Cătălin Podaru.

The activity of the two companies was significantly influenced by the integration of technologies and advanced solutions and the imperative need to respond to climate challenges through sustainable projects.

Cătălin Podaru points out that “implementing artificial intelligence in as many processes as possible and using the BIM methodology to its full capacity have transformed the way we design and build, allowing us to carry out more complex and more efficient works in terms of energy and costs”.

The digitization of the companies in the group and the automation of work processes have allowed, on one hand, productivity growth, eased the work, and highlighted the creative spirit of its specialists, and on the other hand, increased the team’s value.

“Certainly, the labor shortage issues have influenced companies in this sector, but through constant support of the academic environment, our group of companies has demonstrated that private sector involvement in the education and training process of future engineers in Romania is essential in overcoming these challenges,” explained Cătălin Podaru.

A notable advance this year

The construction industry in Romania experienced a notable advance this year compared to the previous year, reflecting the trends and transformations in the global construction sector.

The local market recorded significant expansion, and construction companies aligned with international standards and global market expectations, showing constant progress and a focus on innovation.

“This year we could notice a predilection for establishing ecological initiatives and applying the BIM methodology. Modular construction and the incorporation of natural elements into projects have defined the trends in this sector,” says the CEO of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construcții.

At the same time, technological advancement, increased interest in sustainable and flexible practices, alongside an economic growth projection in the field, suggest a favorable and hopeful evolution for the construction industry.

Cătălin Podaru highlights that: “Integrating modern solutions into the complex projects carried out by our companies has brought us a series of advantages, among which we can mention increased efficiency and completing the works within the proposed deadlines, with all the market challenges, supply chain issues of materials, and rising prices.

For our companies, the year 2023 was one of growth and consolidation of our market position, compared to the previous year, marking the continuation of innovative trends and our commitment to adopting new technologies, carrying out sustainable projects, supporting education, the social environment, and national security initiatives”.

Important projects in the portfolio of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construcții

“Among the most important achievements of this year for Leviatan Design is the completion and delivery of the technical documentation for the project in Câmpia Turzii, one of the most extensive public projects in Romania. The works on this project are in full execution and are proceeding according to schedule.

Also, we are proud that, recently, the Southeast Multinational Corps NATO became operational, thanks to the work done by our team, which will be completed by the end of this year,” specifies Cătălin Podaru.

The project is of major strategic importance and comes at a crucial moment for regional and Euro-Atlantic security, considering the increasing tensions and security challenges at Romania’s borders. The operationalization of the Command will serve as a pillar of stability on the Eastern Flank, in the Black Sea region.

“Furthermore, the year 2023 has brought our group of companies an important framework agreement with the Sector 3 City Hall, for the development and modernization of educational infrastructure in Sector 3, by carrying out extension works of several public buildings, including kindergartens, schools, high schools, colleges, and sports halls.

Also, we are pleased to announce that, recently, a framework agreement was signed with the Municipal Administration for the Consolidation of Buildings at Seismic Risk, with an estimated value of over 60 million lei without VAT, for providing energy audit services, elaboration/review of technical-economic documentation, and technical assistance for the consolidation of 275 buildings in Bucharest, with a total area of approximately 550,000 sqm,” mentions Mr. Podaru.

Last but not least, among this year’s achievements of the design and execution group of companies entered a new large-scale project, contracted under the regulation concerning public procurements from NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). This involves designing a series of buildings and storage platforms and a heliport within the 57th Air Base “Mihail Kogălniceanu”.

“All these achievements not only consolidated our presence on the Romanian construction market but also highlighted our capacity to manage complex projects and deliver solutions to the highest standards,” appreciates Cătălin Podaru.
