Supply chain bottlenecks, inflation, and labor shortages remain significant challenges for the construction industry in 2023, according to an by Autodesk, which brings together several key voices in the field.
Thus, the alignment of construction companies to current trends becomes a necessity to effectively overcome the many challenges impacting Romania’s construction market this year.
Digitization and workflow automation are at the forefront of this year’s major trends. Representatives from Autodesk, a global leader in design and manufacturing technology with expertise in fields like architecture, engineering, and construction, explained that “construction companies will focus on innovation to develop more cost-efficient projects.” Moreover, to counter the issues regarding labor shortage, “companies will concentrate on automating processes and increasingly using robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to boost staff work capacity.”
In the context of climate change, Autodesk experts emphasized that “resource consumption and CO2 emissions need to be reduced, with the help of technology, to minimize environmental impact.”
Danielle O’Connell, Sr. Director Emerging Technology at Skanska USA, pointed out in Autodesk’s article that “construction technologies will continue this year to emphasize interconnectivity, to increase productivity, quality, and safety.”
Furthermore, Muhammad Khalil Bin Shaiful Bahari, Deputy Director at Boustead Projects Limited, explained that in the coming years, “the digital model will become more accessible, to be used in augmented reality and mixed reality applications. The use of digital platforms will become more important, and UI/UX will be essential for their adoption,” he emphasized.
New Challenges | New Solutions – Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions, in step with construction industry trends
The challenges in the construction sector, anticipated at the beginning of this year on global level, were also felt by Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions. However, specialists from the two companies relied on constant investments in digitizing design and execution processes, successfully overcoming the difficulties they encountered.
Therefore, digitization remains a priority this year for Leviatan and Ubitech. In this context, we mention the importance of adopting and implementing Autodesk solutions within the two design and execution companies, contracted through Graitec, a Platinum Autodesk Partner, and international developer of software solutions for design. Leviatan and Ubitech hold no less than 60 Autodesk AEC Collection licenses and 35 Autodesk Construction Cloud licenses, for software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks Manage, Infraworks, and many others.
“Technological investments allowed us to cover a wide variety of operational needs, to improve collaborative work between specialties using the Common Data Environment (CDE) from the BIM360 platform, to reduce frictions, to increase the level of detail of the 3D models, and hence, to work concurrently on multiple projects with the same team of engineers, designers, and architects,” stated Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions.
Continuous training of employees and the development of a learning culture are ways that companies can attract professionals and convince them to stay within the companies. This is also the case with Leviatan and Ubitech, where digitization is based on process standardization, which facilitates easier learning by employees. Essentially, the continuous learning process, based on past experiences and best practices, has led to the development o a strong organizational memory.
Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions understand the constant need to invest in education, which is why they offer support for numerous initiatives in the academic environment. The relatively small number of specialists in the construction sector in Romania poses a real challenge, and thus, the constant collaboration with Romanian universities proves to be necessary, contributing to the formation of tomorrow’s engineers.
Leviatan and Ubitech focus on sustainability, and in this regard, the specialists of the two companies professionally and responsibly approach all the projects they carry out and integrate innovative solutions within them, contributing to the development of a better and safer sustainable society.
