The design and construction group formed by Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions has recorded rapid growth in its 10 years of activity on the local market. In 2022, the two companies had a contract portfolio in execution of over 800 million lei and a turnover of 150 million lei. Therefore, in the previous year, the group of companies had a business growth of 50% compared to 2021.
The development strategy of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions emphasizes constant investment in the process of digital transformation of companies and the enhancement of team capabilities.

“We have invested in the AEC software solutions offered by Autodesk, in implementing the BIM standard in the design and execution process, in automating workflows, in advanced mixed reality and 3D scanning technologies, in state-of-the-art equipment, and last but not least, in our teams. The investments made in the digital transformation process of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construction companies have contributed to the increase in team performance and the quality of the projects implemented. Thus, with the help of scanning equipment, we can collect and process large volumes of data in a short time, and through the technological solutions offered by Microsoft HoloLens 2 glasses, we can easily coordinate between field specialists and office staff. On the other hand, technological investments have allowed us to cover a wide variety of operational needs, to improve collaborative work between specialties by using the common data environment (CDE) from the BIM360 platform, to reduce friction, to increase the level of detail of the 3D models and, implicitly, to be able to work in parallel, on multiple projects, with the same team of engineers, designers, and architects”, said Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Ubitech Constructions and Leviatan Design.
Always in step with technology
As promoters of construction technologization, Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions follow the new trends in the field of construction, so that each developed project becomes a quality benchmark. From the beginning, the two companies have focused on sustainable development through technology and innovation, today being two of the most technologized companies on the construction market in Romania.

The companies are present at the most important conferences and exhibitions in the field of construction, and the specialists constantly monitor online sources of expertise, in order to always be up to date with the newest solutions and technologies in construction.
“Through the Planning and Continuous Process Improvement Office and the Lessons Learned working group, we manage to test and operationally implement the latest innovations. Among these, we mention the process of implementing virtual and mixed reality, through HoloLens and the use of topographic drones and 3D scanners. In addition, we are working on drafting a best practice manual for using Digital Twin. For our group of companies, automation and digitization of all processes are a priority, as they contribute to increasing the level of communication efficiency and the quality of project execution. Automation and process integration, BIM and AEC flows, the use of virtual reality, and new technologies are becoming business as usual within our group of companies”, explained Cătălin Podaru.
The manager confirms that digitization and the use of new technologies have improved processes by approximately 35% – the quality level has increased in the developed projects and has reduced the execution time and frictions between teams. These benefits can be experienced by the entire construction sector, facilitating the transition of investments towards green and resilient buildings.
“We believe that in a constantly changing market, which brings challenges across the board (staff fluctuation, difficulties in material supply, and increases in construction material prices, etc.), both in design and execution, an agile mindset approach is necessary to face these challenges and perform,” emphasized the representative of Ubitech Constructions and Leviatan Design.
BIM in all stages of the project: from concept to execution
The digitization process within Ubitech Constructions and Leviatan Design began about 4 years ago. Cătălin Podaru recalls that, at first, the design and execution teams were somewhat reluctant to adopt new technologies and ways of working, but after 4 years of digitization and implementation of BIM processes, they understood the benefits, and today they can no longer consider the traditional approach in construction projects.

“The digitization effort must be viewed from the perspective of financial resources allocated for the purchase of high-performance software and resources used for redesigning internal processes, together with team members. This effort is enduring and involves perseverance, but also the vision of the advantages offered by the implementation carried out. The challenges for the implementation of new solutions and technologies are related to the mindset of professionals, the lack of applied models, and resistance to change,” said Cătălin Podaru.
The group of companies uses the BIM methodology at all stages of the project, from the proposal phase in relation to customer requirements, to the design and execution phase, effectively covering the entire life of the built fund.
In the design process and execution, Mixed Reality devices are used, in conjunction with Mixed Reality software, such as Visual Live and Next BIM, and to manage all data, processes, documents, roles, and project versions, the BIM360 platform is used. The complete 3D BIM model of the design and execution of a building is extremely valuable in the operating phase, as it allows the collection of relevant information for Big Data analyses, while also facilitating the application of advanced facility management solutions.
“By implementing the BIM methodology, both in the design phase and in the execution phase, we have managed to create a collaborative way of working, involving all specialties. Thus, we have created integrated workflows, thanks to which our design and execution teams have managed to communicate very quickly, efficiently, and clearly. In other words, BIM has allowed everyone to know in real time who, what, how they have done within the projects,” explained Cătălin Podaru.
Moving forward, the management of Leviatan Design and Ubitech Constructions is considering accessing funds from the PNRR for the implementation of digital technologies, and their commitment to the market is to remain at the top of the most innovative and technological companies in the design and construction field.
