Between April and May 2024, Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Group, took part in a series of high-level events in Washington, D.C., USA. On one hand, Leviatan Group supported the New Strategy Center in presenting the strategic challenges facing the Black Sea region, a crucial issue in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. On the other, it reaffirmed its position as a supporter of Romanian leadership, particularly at the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards.
These events also offered Leviatan Group a significant opportunity to strengthen its presence in the U.S. and to explore potential partnerships and collaborations—highlighting the group’s expertise in military infrastructure development and its commitment to helping build a safer, more secure regional future.
Black Sea Security Challenges Presented in Washington with Support from Leviatan Group
From 16 to 19 April 2024, Cătălin Podaru participated in a series of strategic events alongside experts from the New Strategy Center.

Together with the Hudson Institute, and with the support of Leviatan Group, the New Strategy Center launched the study “The Battle for the Black Sea Is Not Over”, which analyses the ongoing security risks in the Black Sea area amid the conflict in Ukraine.

Several key meetings followed with representatives from the U.S. State Department, the House Armed Services Committee, and foreign policy and defense experts from renowned think tanks such as the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Woodrow Wilson Center, The Heritage Foundation, Atlantic Council, CEPA, and the Hudson Institute.
These discussions addressed the complex geopolitical situation in the Black Sea region, including navigation security and the ongoing war in Ukraine, while also reaffirming Romania’s commitment to regional stability and collective defense.
20 Years of NATO Membership | Leviatan Group Sponsors Anniversary Concert
To mark the 20th anniversary of Romania’s NATO membership, Cătălin Podaru attended the celebratory concert “Faith, Freedom, Friendship: Celebrating 20 Years of Romania’s NATO Membership” on April 20, 2024, organised by the Romanian Embassy in the U.S. and Procred Music.
Leviatan Group proudly sponsored the event, which took place at the historic Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.—the very venue where the North Atlantic Treaty was signed 75 years ago, on April 4, 1949.

On May 8, 2024, Leviatan Group had the honour of partnering with the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards. The event recognised Romania’s strategic role in its partnership with the U.S. and NATO through the presentation of the Distinguished International Leadership Award to President Klaus Iohannis.

General Christopher G. Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Commander of U.S. European Command, received the Distinguished Military Leadership Award for his outstanding 35-year military career.
Michelle Yeoh, Oscar-winning actress, received the Distinguished Artistic Leadership Award for her global impact as an artist and her advocacy through the United Nations Development Programme and the International Olympic Committee.

During the event, Cătălin Podaru had the opportunity to engage in an insightful discussion with General Cavoli on today’s evolving global security landscape.
