Any failure in military infrastructure may lead to catastrophe.
Cătălin Podaru, Founder and General Manager of Leviatan Design, a Romanian military contractor, told DefenseRomania what such a project entails and why it is so important.
“Leviatan Design” is involved inter alia in very large military infrastructure projects, including the one in Sibiu, inside the South-East Multinational Corps Command, but also in operational infrastructure projects that are implemented in “General Emanoil Ionescu” Air Base 71 (Câmpia Turzii).
Cătălin Podaru reminded that in the field in which Leviatan Design operates there is no room for error. And any possible error can lead to a catastrophe.
Leviatan’s director explained that although military technology is the “star”, an armament programme starts long before military equipment arrives, by building the military infrastructure. At the same time, the military infrastructure is also used to maintain the equipment.
Military infrastructure is critical from this perspective, as the lack of infrastructure can lead to delays in the delivery of military technology, be it fighter jets, anti-aircraft missile systems or other types of technology. However, there is also a risk that missions may fail due to infrastructure issues or, more importantly, that the lives of the military may be put at risk.
“Military technology cannot be delivered if there are no proper storage facilities,” said Cătălin Podaru, who added that in this area “the required level of quality is very high”.
“The importance or effects of an error can be catastrophic in terms of value, but also from a military perspective, i.e. failing in a mission because an aircraft was not repaired or could not be lifted in time, but especially from the perspective of the loss of life,” Cătălin Podaru stressed.
“All this place a heavy responsibility on our shoulders, and we always take that into account,” says the director of Leviatan Design.
