Construction innovations presented by Leviatan Group specialists at InnoConstruct 2024

Between 29-30 May 2024, several Leviatan Group specialists attended INNOCONSTRUCT 2024 – Solving the Digital Puzzle in Construction, the International Conference on Innovation in Construction, organized by the TEC Cluster, with the support of our group of companies.

As in the previous editions, InnoConstruct brought together experts from the academic environment, construction specialists, as well as representatives of public authorities, offering a suitable framework for the advancement of pioneering solutions and effective practices in this field.

Leviatan specialists were speakers in the “BIM in practice” and “Digital tools and innovative technologies in construction” panels and took part in the “Digital transformation in practice” workshop.

In addition, at our InnoConstruct booth, the event attendees could see through the HoloLens 2 and Meta Quest 3 glasses the 3D model of the UTCB Conference Center building, where the event took place.

BIM in practice

Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Group, spoke in the “BIM in practice” panel, where he highlighted the importance of digitalizing field surveys and the performance of the NavVis VLX2 and GeoSLAM equipment, which allows our specialists to scan, within a project, a considerable number of buildings in a very short period.

“As part of the framework agreement with AMCCRS, which involves the consolidation of buildings in Bucharest, Leviatan specialists provide the design part for over 30 buildings, which cover an area of tens of thousands of square meters. Although the deadline for this project is quite tight, our colleagues in the Digital Twin Department achieved the performance of scanning 20 buildings in just 25 days. In addition, the data processing was done in 120 hours, and the 3D models were created in 60 days,” said Cătălin Podaru.

At the same time, Cătălin Podaru explained in his presentation how the quality checks can be performed on the construction site with the help of Digital Twin, but also how the checklists can be done using artificial intelligence.

Digital transformation in practice

The ideas and solutions presented during the first panel of the event were further explored in the “Digital Transformation in Practice” workshop. In this context, several Leviatan Group specialists, from the Planning and Continuous Improvement Processes, Architecture and Digital Twin, Topography and Advanced Telemetry departments, spoke about technologies applied in Design & Build projects and how digital tools can optimize design and execution processes.

In this way, Romina Posea, Head of the Planning and Continuous Process Improvement Department, Beatrice Băluță-Siclitaru, Head of the Architecture Department, and Cristina Ilie, Head of the Digital Twin, Topography and Advanced Telemetry Department, presented several good practices adopted by Leviatan Group. On this occasion, Cristina Ilie highlighted the advantages offered by the NavVis VLX2 and GeoSLAM scanners to our specialists, and Beatrice Băluță-Siclitaru described how the design process is performed in some of our projects including Building Seismic Risk Consolidation in Bucharest.

Răzvan Aurelian Munteanu, Executive Director of the Municipal Administration for the Consolidation of Buildings with Seismic Risk (AMCCRS), confirmed at the workshop the performance of the cutting-edge technologies used by Leviatan Group specialists in the project to consolidate buildings with seismic risk, in Bucharest.

“The main challenge that we had until 2-3 years ago concerned the level of trust people have in public institutions, because in the last 30 years, 30 buildings have been consolidated in Bucharest. Leviatan Design, one of the companies we collaborate with on the design phase, was able to scan the buildings very quickly, with advanced equipment, which gave people confidence that things can change”, said Răzvan Aurelian Munteanu, Executive Director of AMCCRS.

The technologies used by Leviatan Group specialists, presented in a PRO TV report

It is obvious that the general interest in the field of construction is increasing, which was also highlighted in a report produced by PRO TV, at this year’s edition of the InnoConstruct event, where numerous prominent companies, including companies from the Leviatan Group, contributed with valuable expertise and insights.

In the report, Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Group, spoke about the importance of using advanced technologies for scanning and analyzing data from construction sites, to increase design performance and reduce the risk of errors. When working in the BIM system, engineers can generate quality compliance reports automatically for increased efficiency.
“These augmented reality glasses follow eye movements and transpose the 3D projected elements into real space, and this high-performance LIDAR scanner allowed my colleagues to scan 20 buildings in just 25 days,” explained Cătălin Podaru.

Hackathon, a competition that supports the creativity of future construction specialists

Hackathon, a competition for students, part of the InnoConstruct event, highlighted the creativity of future construction specialists. All student teams that took part in the competition presented a joint project of architecture, structure, and MEP systems.

For the second year in a row, Giulia, Construction Design Engineer in the Structural Design Department at Leviatan Design, who is currently following the master’s program in Structural Engineering, was among the winners of the Hackathon organized as part of the InnoConstruct event.

Electronic signature of technical documentation in the design phase, an innovation developed by Leviatan Group and CertSIGN specialists

During the InnoConstruct event, Maria Văsi, BIM Implementation Manager – Leviatan Design, presented for the first time an innovative solution that includes two major steps in the delivery of technical documentation in the design phase, developed by the R&D division of our group of companies, eConfaire Immersive Design, together with CertSIGN, leader of the digital certificates market in Romania.

“Qualified electronic signature with signature in common data environment is not only a technological innovation but also a major shift in how we will manage efficiency and accountability in our construction projects”, Maria Vasi, BIM Implementation Manager.

Our solution enables qualified digital signing of all plans and technical memorandums, in compliance with GEO 140/2020, and makes it easy for all project stakeholders to access the original documents in the BIM collaborative platform from their phone, tablet, or PC.

“Maria and Beatrice presented a demo at the event showing a complete signing/import flow of the drawings into the collaborative BIM platform, using the qualified electronic signature. All platforms worked very well, and response times were very good. It was a flawless technical exercise and a valuable solution to the challenges brought by the classic paper-based flow. I would like to thank the Leviatan Group team for the effective implementation and Cătălin Podaru for his innovative vision and willingness to join this effort,” said Aurel Meiroșu, Business Development Manager – CertSIGN.

Aurel Meiroșu, Business Development Manager – CertSIGN, has 15 years of experience in the trust services market and is a promoter of digital transformation concepts and projects using electronic signature and electronic identification. Together with his BD team, he implemented e-Citizen projects in the public sector, enabling citizens to interact electronically with the public administration. In the private sector, he constantly contributes to increasing the rate of adoption of trusted services on the Romanian market, either by participating as a speaker to share his expertise and best practices or by direct involvement in projects about onboarding and loan processes in the financial sector or in human resources, supply chain, customer and contractor digitalization processes.

The solution developed by our team and CertSIGN improves the security of signatures and demonstrates our commitment to contributing to a sustainable future and workflow digitalization within our group of companies, which includes Leviatan Design, Ubitech Construcții, eConfaire Immersive Design, and Copraag Entrepreneur.
